Laura (Ward) Brown’s artwork often focused on the physical, emotional and historical presence of abandoned houses and their connection to ourselves. Houses act as shelter, home, a container for memory and an aging shell. Both houses and humans outwardly display one view with a host of internal layers hiding within. Peeling away one layer often reveals a new view or texture beneath. Born in New Hampshire, Ward received her BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, MA with a concentration in glass and sculpture, and her MFA from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, IL. After years of creating art, teaching, and assisting artists with their work, Ward left the Seattle art world in 2013 to pour her efforts into creating an eco-friendly oyster farm in the cool crisp waters of Little Bay, NH where she grew up.
