With the use of projectors, artificial intelligence (AI) recognition software, videographic content, and over 63,000 reflective woven threads, Maja Petrić and her team transformed MadArt Studio into an immersive starscape. Exploring the theme of interconnectedness, Petrić’s installation utilized interactive light, spatial sound, and AI to create audiovisual trails of each visitor as they moved through the space. These personalized light sculptures accumulated as the exhibition progressed, emulating a constellation in which visitors were connected to one another through the past, present, and future.
Petrić is a new media artist who uses cutting edge technologies to create installations that evoke the sublimity of nature. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Washington and a Master’s from New York University, gearing her studies toward transforming the poetic experience of space through the experimental use of technology.
We Are All Made Of Light also coincided with Seattle’s BOREALIS: a festival of light, debuting in October, 2018 in South Lake Union and across Seattle.
The technological components of We Are All Made Of Light were developed by Microsoft Principal Researcher Mihai Jalobeanu.
This project was made possible through the support of 4Culture, the University of Washington Digital Arts and Experimental Media (DXARTS), and the University of Washington School of Drama.
