Her aesthetic fits the Pattern and Decoration Movement of the 1970s, which explored non-Western aesthetics by using flattened design elements and de-emphasizing any particular focal point. Julia’s creative inspirations are broad, originating from direct observations of urban landscapes and in the study of cathedrals, world textiles and non-traditional quilt designs. Salvaged and repurposed woods are used extensively.
