Mark Zirpel

Seattle, WA

Mark Zirpel is a multidisciplinary artist working between Sedro-Woolley and Seattle, Washington. His relentless curiosity drives his artistic exploration of the convergence between art and science, creating sculptural, installation-based kinetic works. He has been featured at numerous galleries including Traver Gallery in Seattle, Bullseye Gallery in Portland, and Kinetica Art Fair in London. Zirpel was awarded the Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship where he explored collections of scientific apparatuses related to observation and measurement, time keeping, terrestrial and celestial navigation, electricity and magnetism. He received a BFA from the University of Alaska and an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. Zirpel is the Dale Chihuly Endowed Chair in Glass and teaches in the 3D4M (3-Dimensional Forum) glass and sculpture program at the University of Washington’s School of Art.
